Growth Groups:

What is a growth group?

We believe people grow best in the context of healthy relationships. At Grace Chapel, we provide many avenues that convey "biblical information," which we all need if we are to grow spiritually. But we also need more than information transfer if we want to grow. We need environments where we can process what we're learning through meaningful discussion and conversation with others.

How long is a growth group?

Growth groups are small gatherings of people that meet for approximately one hour, once a week for 12 weeks, in a setting that is gracious, honest, and safe. It's led by a skilled and seasoned facilitator.

What have others said about Growth Groups?

Those who have gone through Growth Groups at Grace have said that they have grown spiritually, relationally, and emotionally. All have also said that they've strengthened their friendships with others and they have gained a greater sense of what God is doing in themselves personally. It's been said that the glory of God is a human being fully alive. We believe that to be true.

What About Books?

Although the books we use in our groups are helpful and provide great information to apply in our lives, they are not the full focus of the group. The books we use for each group does provide a great backdrop for some common discussion to spark, but often the discussion moves beyond information sharing and moves into more personal and meaningful conversations of what God is currently doing in our lives and how we might respond.

What Growth Groups do we offer?

There are three groups beginning this summer:

  • Changes that Heal
  • Abba's Child
  • 12-Step Recovery Group (TBA)

How much do they cost?

Because we are privileged to have a bi-vocational licensed clinical Christian counselor (and pastor) facilitate these groups, it's our delight to reimburse him with a modest charge of $5 per person per evening ($25 per month). Payment is due the first week of each month. Most groups meet for 3 months. Some financial scholarships are available.

For more information, call 375-5515, go to the "Connect" table on Sunday, or see Darin Gere.

Changes That Heal - begins Tuesday, June 8.
